RotPG – Darin Epsilon (09/02/2011)

Darin Epsilon

Darin Epsilon

Internationally acclaimed DJ, producer, radio host, and label owner Darin Epsilon is often referred to as a leader of the Progressive & Tech House scene.  His Perspectives radio show and podcast, along with his frequent guest appearances on Sirius/XM Satellite Radio (www.siriusxm.com), allow him to reach tens of thousands of listeners on a regular basis.  His SoundCloud page (www.soundcloud.com/darinepsilon) alone has over 200,000 total plays and currently receives a whopping 10,000 plays per month.  He recently launched his record label Perspectives Digital (www.perspectivesdigital.com) as an extension of the brand, further solidifying his influence and presence within the global dance community.

But how did it all begin?
“My first real exposure to electronic dance music happened about 11 years ago while I was growing up just outside of Chicago. There would be these mixshows late at night with DJ’s spinning a variety of underground house and progressive trance every week. It didn’t take long before I became addicted to the music. Well, I shouldn’t use the word addicted, but that’s really how I was feeling at the time.  Eventually, it was no longer enough to just be a listener; I wanted to extend further and become an active participant in the scene.”  (ClubbersGuide.com.mkInterview – April 2011)

As a gifted student of music from an early age, former record shop employee, and former director of a college radio station, Darin draws inspiration from his nearly encyclopedic knowledge and genuine appreciation of electronic music.  He cites a variety of important influences in the past decade, from the early Leftfield and Future Sound of London albums, to the iconic Global Underground compilation series, to the sweeping sounds of Paul Oakenfold circa 1999, to Sasha & Digweed’s mind-blowing Delta Heavy tour in 2002.

Darin’s refined taste in music and natural ear for a catchy tune has translated into the production world as well.  He gained the attention of the industry’s elite early on with his first-ever original tune titled Bluephobia.  The track debuted on Hernan Cattaneo’s now legendary Metrodance radio show in 2007 and proved to be monumental success, even spawning a series of viral YouTube videos.   Following the success ofBluephobia, he continued turning heads with remixes for high-profile artists Matthew Dekay, Chris Fortier, D:Fuse, Kenneth Thomas, and Noel Sanger.  In 2009, he reached another milestone with his remix of Hibernate’s vocal anthem Left Alone on Paul Oakenfold’s Perfecto label.  The tune immediately climbed into the Beatport (www.beatport.com) Top 25 Progressive House chart and was later included in Paul’s Perfecto Vegascompilation on iTunes.

To date, Darin has released music on many of the industry’s most respected labels, including Perfecto, Armada, microCastle, and Baroque Records.  He counts Hernan Cattaneo, John Digweed, Sasha, Nick Warren, Dave Seaman, Paul Oakenfold, Markus Schulz, Gareth Emery, Jody Wisternoff (Way Out West), and D:Fuse amongst his regular supporters.

If you have ever been in the audience to catch one of his live sets, it becomes almost immediately apparent that he is proficiently skilled as a DJ as well.  His frequent flyer miles seem almost continually on the rise with regular tours around the world.  He has electrified audiences across the United States, as well as headlined shows in Russia, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Bulgaria, Dominican Republic, and Costa Rica.

“I love traveling and meeting people from different countries.  Since I grew up as a minority here in the US, I’m naturally fascinated at the concepts of identity and culture and how these factor into each of our lives.  Also, the fact that I can play on the opposite side of the world (Siberia, for example) and speak to people that have heard my music online!  The internet has made anything possible.” (ClubDistrict.comInterview – April 2011)

Within Los Angeles, where he currently resides, he often plays for the city’s most prestigious clubs, including Avalon (www.avalonhollywood.com) which was Urb Magazine’s 2009 Club of the Year and 40th on DJ Mag’s Top 100 Clubs of 2009, Vanguard (www.vanguardla.com), and Playhouse (www.playhousehollywood.com).  Over the years, this has allowed him the opportunity to share the spotlight with many of dance music’s superstars including Hernan Cattaneo, James Zabiela, Sander Kleinenberg, John Graham (Quivver), Josh Gabriel (Gabriel & Dresden), Jody Wisternoff (Way Out West), Fedde Le Grand, Paul Harris (Dirty Vegas), Dirty South, Dave Aude, Morgan Page, and Kenneth Thomas.

However, it would be foolish to say that his achievements have been purely confined to the club setting. Global brands such as MTV, American DJ, American Audio, Elation Professional, and Global Truss have all called upon him to provide the soundtrack to their videos.  His music can also be found in the films Ecstasy (www.facebook.com/xtcfilm) and Slip Cue (www.slipcuemovie.com), placing him in a small category of producers that have ever made it onto the big screen.

With hard work, passion, pure dedication to his art, and support from the industry’s most revered names, this Chicago native turned LA transplant aims to prove that this is only the beginning to a long and promising career.

RotPG – Downtown Party Network (07/08/2011)

Downtown Party Network

Downtown Party Network

Downtown Party Network might once have been a magical period of New York City nightlife, but today it represents a duo from another side of the world. Meet two fellow Lithuanians, a long-term DJ Saulty and music producer Bradka.

After playing all around Lithuania for a decade, in 2008 Saulty decided he wants to say everything he had experienced in music. He visited Bradka in his studio and, to cut a long story short, a track called “Days Like These” was born. Eskimo recordings signed the duo right after hearing it and testing it in a Belgian discotheque, where not a single soul could resist to the beachy disco feeling. Soon after that the first vinyl of Downtown Party Network with “Days Like These” on the A side and “Into Your Face” on the B side smashed the record stores all around the world. “Days Like These” continued to spread the summer love even further and showed up in two Ibiza mix CDs as well.

The mission had to be continued, so summer of 2009 was greeted with a second record on Eskimo. “Heart Break Dancing” and “Walk On Ice” soon became favorites of many respected DJs in the scene and around it – Tiga, Aeroplane, DJ Harvey and the likes. “Heart Break Dancing” was included into the the Global Underground compilation “GU 2010”.

The deep and soulful disco sound producers from Lithuania since the beginning have been kindly welcomed to the wordwide remixer circuit. The most recent on the already remarkable list of those remixed is the Dutch superstar DJ Sander Kleinenberg. “Downtown Party Network” also have dropped remixes on the legendary Compost label and Australian Future Classic to name a few.

While travelling around clubs in Lithuania and Europe Saulty and Bradka also have plenty of ideas to be expressed in the studio, so new singles and remixes are already on the way. In the beginning of 2012 the fans of Downtown Party Network will be greeted with a full artist album that should break a lot of hearts.
