Texas born Jamie Thinnes transplanted to the LA area as a young teenager and was quickly seduced by the intriguing sounds found in the wee hours, in the abundant warehouses, loft spaces and odd locations scattered throughout southern California. Early on, house music crept into Jamie’s soul and has been his guiding light ever since. Quickly becoming an underground favorite in the early ‘90s, Jamie forged his unique and captivating sound in a wide variety of Los Angeles environs – from full scale nightclubs to many a dark and dirty after-hours, from sunny beaches to ultra exclusive, all-night house parties. His trademark deep, spiritual rhythms and low frequency grooves never fail to keep the dancefloor marching in time to sunrise and beyond. A master mixer and programmer behind the decks, Jamie’s unwavering devotion to house shines through with every twist of the knob and every slide of the fader.

In 1996, Jamie’s musical vision blossomed when he had the good fortune of becoming involved with the Long family, founders of the famed Higher Source Records establishment (arguably, the finest record store in the LA area from 1996 to 2003). With the generous hand of the Longs, Jamie and long time friend and collaborator, Dean DeCosta, founded Earthtones Recordings. After 10 highly regarded releases, Earthtones was forced to change its name due to trademark issues. As Dean became heavily involved in the record store, Jamie pushed on and Seasons Recordings was born. 15  years in existence, with a heavy catalog of class act releases featuring Franck Roger, Olivier Portal, John Cutler, Dj Spinna, Anto Vitale, Charles Webster, Boddhi Satva, Black Coffee and Jamie himself, to name a few, Seasons has truly evolved into one of the premier house music imprints worldwide. While countless other labels have faded away or tried to re-invent themselves with a new sound every few years, Seasons, and its revered Seasons Ltd. sub-label, have stood the test of time with consistent, quality house music that’s based on an unshakeable foundation of musicality, soulful delivery and infectious grooves.

RotPG – Doctor Riboh (02/17/2012)

Doctor Riboh

When asked about the name ‘Doctor Riboh’ the proper explanation is that his name is Louis Raphael Riboh and Raphael translates to ‘The Lord Healed’ and is also the name of the biblical ‘Angel of healing’, the Riboh part is pronounced ‘Reebo’,

Doctor Riboh sees the only form of true ‘spiritual healing’ being Trance and House music and it can’t get more simple than that.

Doctor Riboh was born in south west london and grew up in several countries around the world and began Deejaying at the age of 13 where he would work as a paperboy before school in order to save up money to get the latest Trance and House vinyls at the weekends.

After high school, Doctor Riboh went on to producing at every spare minute of the day, living for years as a recluse in a dark bedroom honing in on every skill needed to penetrate the game with a bang.

Friday nights while his friends would be out hitting the clubs downtown, Doctor Riboh would be locked in to this same dark studio making endless music untill he felt finally ready to unleash his perfected sound onto Clubland.

It began with one of the official remixes of Altar – Sound Of Your Voice wich reached number 1 on Junodownload.com and for weeks remained in the official beatport top 20. With several other remixes and original tracks floating around on the underground scene yet still reaching clubs all over from London to Paris and New york to Bombay The next big step for Doctor Riboh was to release an official single on one of either 2 labels CR2 records or Positiva who were the key labels at the time and so… Doctor Riboh hit the studio with a vengeance aiming for the winning formula, sent out his first full on demo and within 2 months got a contract through from CR2 records.

Doctor Riboh still proudly holds on tight to his roots in the Trance scene wich he has never really let go of and if anything incorporates into his own sounds of his more euphoric sounding house and progressive ‘floorfilling’ dance music as well as the commercial funky house side of his music.

With a passion for melodies and dark driving basslines Doctor Riboh is set to cause a Riboh-Lution on every dancefloor! Doctor Riboh has DJ’ed all over the globe from europe to middle east and far east and has Deejayed alongside Matt Darey, Al Wilson, Tristan D (Judgement Sundays), Matt Smallwood, JNR Jay, K Klass, Tristan Ingram and his very good friend Natalie Parker to name a few.

The average set from Doctor Riboh will consist of a severely hyperactive form of Dark Electro to cause hemorrhages on every dancefloor (You will see him on stage with his blood splattered doctor’s outfit on bodyrocking all over the place).

“Doctor Riboh is a great upcomming talent from the new generation with an absolute marvelous taste in music, watch out for this powerful studio machine !”

RotPG – Raíz & Dean Paul (01/27/2012)

Raíz & Dean Paul

Raíz & Dean Paul

Los Angeles born and bred, Vangelis and Vidal Vargas were raised in the ’80s on a steady diet of Latin freestyle, electro, and new wave that pervaded their urban environment. Their father also exposed them to cutting edge progressive acts Vangelis, Tangerine Dream and Kraftwerk, planting early seeds for aural exploration. By the mid ’90s they were sampling LA’s underground club scene and heavily researching electronic music’s roots. After years of influence they began to express their musical vision through their own recordings and performances. Vidal and Vangelis eventually found common ground with producer / performer Drumcell, and in 2002 they formed the Droid Behavior event production group and record label out of frustration with the city’s lack of knowledge, acceptance, and understanding for Midwest-bred techno and house music and their European counterparts.

As producers Vangelis and Vidal have released and licensed original music and remixes under various aliases (most notably Acid Circus and Raíz) on the Droid Recordings imprint as well as respected labels Historia y Violencia, Tora Tora Tora, DJMag, Music Man, Resident Advisor, Enemy Rec, Gynoid, Reloading, Micro.Fon and Timefog. Their music has been charted, played and supported by Speedy J, Chris Liebing, Marcel Dettmann, Ben Klock, DVS1, Levon Vincent, Jonas Kopp, etc.

Their intense and inspiring performances have placed them alongside major players Jeff Mills, Richie Hawtin, Derrick May, Dan Bell, Surgeon, Sandwell District, Robag, Paco Osuna, Pan Pot, Marco Carola, Detroit Grand Pubahs, and Berghain Residents at undergrounds, festivals, after hours, and club nights from North and South America to Berlin.

Raíz fully harness the capabilities of Traktor, Ableton, and Maschine technology to create a thick blend of Detroit influenced techno and gritty house. They take cues from years of classical training to infuse dynamic musical expression with a delicate balance of mixing board acrobatics and symbiotic intuition. Years of production experience inform their Live PA / Digital DJ hybrid approach, which uses each track’s core essentials to form a narrative arch for every unique set. Their releases follow suit and take only key elements from each rhythmic style to shape simplistic and deep music that captures their diverse influences and personal impressions.

RotPG – Phillip Cejudo (02/25/2011)

In Phillip Cejudo’s own words:
When I was ten years old my interest in House Music began because it was one of few options for an inner city youth in the high crime Los Angeles of the 1990’s. By the time I was 11, DJ AJ MORA invited me into the music scene by introducing me to the world of DJing. He allowed me to watch him practice mixing in the basement and let me accompany him to local club gigs and at 12, I got my first DJ system on layaway from a local music shop. This is where my journey began.

As a young DJ and high school student I was more interest in graffiti art, sketching classes and AJ’s home studio than I was in my formal education. In 1998 I was 15 years old and the youngest among the DJs in the Los Angeles underground music scene. By 2002 I played gigs regularly in and around Los Angeles as well as an annual music festival south of Chicago, IL.

In 2005 I began a music focused event called Sunday School which was held in my downtown Los Angles loft every week. A self-refurbished sound system was completed in order to optimize sound quality for the space. Sunday School lasted until the fall of 2006 because it quickly drew more crowds than space allowed.

Taking a year to build my hand crafted speakers I finally unveiled them at the monthly event, Confidential House Culture. Held in the basement of a downtown Los Angeles landmark, Confidential has grown exponentially since the first event and continues to draw crows who are there for one purpose: dancing to the rhythms of the soul.
